About GridCafé

The GridCafé explains to non-experts - in a simple and stimulating fashion - what the Grid is and what it could soon be.

It does not attempt to provide an exhaustive review of Grid technology. Nor can it claim a completely unbiased point of view - it is developed at CERN, the world's largest high-energy physics laboratory and a leader in Grid development, and so naturally many examples come from CERN.

Nevertheless, it is the ambition of the Grid café to try to provide a broad and balanced introduction to Grid technology. The goal is to inform, rather than to proselytise, and so critical viewpoints are included alongside optimistic scenarios.

Above all, the Grid café aspires to be a living, breathing and convivial meeting place - just like a real café! - and not just a repository of up-to-date information on the Grid.

For that to happen, we need your help, advice, feedback and encouragement - so do not hesitate to contact us!

This is why a discussion forum is available on the site. This is also why four fictional characters in the virtual Grid café provide their very different angles on the Grid throughout the site.
