LHC Computing Grid |
CERN openlab is an exciting partnership between research and industry that allows CERN researchers to assess the impact of ultra-new IT technologies on the LHC Computing Grid. The benefits of peering into this technological crystal ball are mutual: through generous sponsorship of state-of-the-art equipment from leading industrial partners, CERN aquires early access to valuable technology that is still several years from reaching the market. In return, CERN provides demanding data challenges, which push these
new technologies to their limits (this is the "lab" part
of openlab). |

|
CERN also provides a neutral environment for integrating solutions from different partners, to test interoperability. This is vital in an age where open standards (the "open" part of openlab) are increasingly guiding the development of the IT industry. In 2008, the CERN openlab partners are HP, Intel, Oracle and EDS. CERN openlab was launched in 2003 with partners Enterasys, HP, IBM, Intel and Oracle.
