DataTAG: Faster than fast!

Several major international Grid development projects are underway in the European Community, in the US and in other countries around the world. All of these projects are working towards the common goal of providing transparent access to the massively distributed computing infrastructure required to meet the challenges of modern data intensive applications, such as the LCG.

The DataTAG project aims to create a large-scale intercontinental Grid testbed to focus upon advanced networking issues and interoperability between different national or pan-national Grids, hence extending the capabilities of each Grid and enhancing the worldwide programme of Grid development.

In May 2003, participants in the DataTAG project set the latest land speed record, transferring data at nearly 1 Gigabit per second (equivalent to nearly two DVD films per minute) between CERN and Chicago, using the new IPv6 Internet Protocol.
