Grid-powered projects
Grid computing is changing the way the world is doing science, as well as business, entertainment, social science and more.
EGI is in charge of developing a grid in Europe, but there are many other grid projects and activities taking place around the world.
You can read more about many other grid projects at GridCafe: there's international grids, volunteer computing grids, grids for specific sciences, grid businesses, grid magazines and more...
Below are a few examples, just to whet your appetite:
- the WISDOM project is using grid computing to speed the search for a cure for malaria, a disease that effects millions of people all over the developed world.
- MammoGrid is building a grid for hospitals to share and analyse mammograms in an effort to improve breast cancer treatment.
- the MathCell project aims to create a grid-managed multi-purpose environment for further research in biology and bioinformatics
- the P12S2 project are using grid computing to learn more about the spread of plant diseases
